Photos: Nature




Misc Nature Photos: (1) Sign outside the William L. Finley Wetlands; (2) A field along 99, south of Corvallis; (3) Happy tree farm, also south of Corvallis near Finley; (4) ROUS, only not so unusual and not a very large nutria at that; (5) Weeds in a river making ripples in Southern Oregon; (6) Caged turkey at E.E. Wilson Wildlife area.

Damn! I love your photos. I'm not getting nearly enough time lately for photography. So are you still shooting your macro shots with a 50mm lens & close-up lens filter? Or am I thinking of someone else? I'm pretty sure I remember you stating that you shoot hand-held, not with a tripod - so what are your basic f-stops, speed, iso setting etc.? (if you don't mind me asking...)

Hey Will, thanks for looking. No, I don't own a real macro lens ... yet. Most of the shots are still done with macro filters, and a steady hand. About 50% of shots get trashed just for poor focus. :-) For super close-ups I have a reverse lens ring that allows a 2nd lens to be attached backwards on the end of the main lens. The quiality isn't great, but the magnification is huge (see grasshoppers and leaf hopper in prev posts). I will look into extention tubes this holiday season (canon EF-25 or the kenko set). Oh, and all images are heavily edited, even if they don't always look it.
